Items to be discussed at the AGM June 12, 2010

1.  AGM, all people attending the APC AGM must be current members of the APC.

2.  Currently elections for officers are every two years.  A proposal that we amend the APC By-laws to read that  all candidates for office must make the announcement in writing by regular mail or by email to the APC Office at P O Box 40, Bogart, Ga. 30622 two months prior to the election.

3.  The APC now has raw and equipped divisions.  We need a formula to be used within the APC to decide the best lifters awards when both raw and equipped divisions are in one contest.  We are developing a formula that will be used prior to and in the APC Nationals.

4.  Since 2005 the APC has used the card money, sanction fees, sponsor money and other income to help pay for the travel expenses of lifters traveling to the world championships.  The APC now will send lifters to the WUAP worlds and the GPA worlds.  For 2010 the APC is committed to using the Athletes Fund to help pay the travel expenses to the WUAP Worlds in Slovakia.   Since January 2009 the APC has sanctioned raw and equipped meets.  The participation of raw and equipped is about equal.  The WUAP decided at the AGM in 2009 that they would not have raw lifting.  The GPA is only raw lifting.  The GPA Worlds are in the US in 2010.  We should discuss 2011 and beyond as to the funding provided by the APC.

5.  Stephen Parkhurst writes:  I would like to bring up a topic at the AGM. I would like discussion of introducing a USA Team Coach to travel with the team to the World Championships.
PROBLEM:
As has been seen at previous World Championships, all too often USA lifters do not have lifting assistance travel with them to Europe. Often the lifters recruit other lifters to help them and often this disrupts that lifter from his own responsibilities. Even worse than that is the scenario where a lifter helps another and the favor is not returned later.   The selection of a team coach for the entire USA Team would provide an athlete with the necessary help he or she needs for a successful Championships, without hurting the other members of the team. As this will be a benefit for all the athletes attending the World Championships, the money for a coach should come from the lifters fund and be equal to the money the athlete receives. This would be the equivalent of adding another lifter to the roster.
REQUIREMENTS AND GUIDELINES:
The coach: must not be a competitor as this could interfere with the coach assisting a lifter.
Will be required to be present and assist all USA lifters competing in the World Championships.
Will receive the same money awarded to the first place finishers attending the World Championships. This would be like adding another lifter to the roster.
Must be an experienced lifter or coach.
The candidates must submit THEMSELVES for consideration no later than the athletes deadline to register. This submission for consideration must be sent to the APC President by email or traditional mail. Any submission after the deadline date will be discarded.
The coach will be selected by the attending athletes of the World Championships. This will be done by email vote. The APC office will send out an email to all lifters attending the World Championships which lists the candidates eligible for the coach position and the deadline to submit a vote. Any vote submitted after the deadline will be discarded. Eligible lifters must provide a valid email address for voting on this matter.
The selected coach will be responsible for all his own travel arrangements, and responsible for making certain he or she is present at all sessions of the World Championships an American athlete is competing.
If no person nominates themselves for the position, the position will be vacant and the money divided among the eligible lifters.

6.  At National and World Championships should relatives who are judges work at the same time?  Should they judge when a relative is competing?

7.  Stephen Parkhurst writes:  I would like to discuss Record Certificates and the cost associated with producing them
It has always been the practice of the APC to provide record certificates to all lifters who break American Records in their respective divisions. Since the first day of the organization, LB Baker has done this as a service to all of us. I wish to thank him personally for this as I am sure all lifters would. As we all probably know printing and postage costs of anything are not getting any cheaper nor will they.
I would like to discuss putting in place a fee for lifters who wish to have record certificates awarded to them. The proposed fee would be announced every year at the AGM meeting and be in effect for the coming year. The fee would be set by the person(s) producing the certificates, as they are the only ones who know what goes into this process. Being awarded a record certificate will be the option of the lifter themselves. Lifters will be expected to contact the APC office to request the certificate.
